CaptionAddr is an iPhone app that automatically adds captions to your videos. It uses on-device speech recognition to transcribe speech, lets you edit every caption at the frame level, and exports a finished video with captions permanently burned in.
No. All video and audio processing happens entirely on your iPhone using a local transcription model. Your files never leave your device. CaptionAddr is designed with privacy as a fundamental principle.
When you first open CaptionAddr, the app downloads the Whisper Small speech model — a one-time download. This model powers all transcription and runs entirely on your device. By keeping it out of the initial app download, CaptionAddr installs faster.
Free users can transcribe and export videos up to 2 minutes with a watermark and basic fonts. Pro users get videos up to 30 minutes, no watermark, and access to all 20+ premium fonts. Pro costs $6.99/month and includes a 3-day free trial.
Open your iPhone Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → CaptionAddr. You can cancel or manage your subscription here. You can also visit apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Your subscription must be cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period to avoid renewal.
Open CaptionAddr → tap the gear icon (Settings) → tap "Restore Purchases." This will restore your Pro subscription if you had an active one. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase.
CaptionAddr requires an iPhone running iOS 17.0 or later. The app is optimized for iPhone in portrait orientation.
On-device transcription does its best, but accuracy can vary based on audio quality, background noise, accents, and speaking speed. CaptionAddr provides a full caption editor so you can correct any errors before exporting.
All purchases and refunds are handled by Apple. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com or contact Apple Support directly.
Your video and audio data is stored only on your device and is never uploaded to our servers. To request deletion of any analytics data associated with your use of the app, email us at CaptionAddr@gmail.com. We will process your request within 30 days.
